It is a legal requirement that herbicide applications should only be done by contractors, like ourselves, who have a National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC) Certificate of Competence.

SprayerConsiderations for Herbicidal Spraying

  • Proximity of knotweed to watercourses
  • Sensitivity of other species near by
  • Size and density of the infestation
  • effect of residual herbicides on tree roots
  • Potential harm to protected wildlife

Herbicidal applications on done by spraying, leaf wipe or stem injection. The precise method depends on the situation and location of the infestation. Combined methods will often be used. This will ensure that the correct herbicide is chosen for the job, at the right strength, applied correctly and at the most effective time of year. Our staff are fully trained to use only approved products in the manner specified, conforming completely to legal obligations.

Apart from being appropriately qualified, our staff are fully aware of all legislation that applies to the use of pesticides. This includes COSHH, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, the Code of Practice for Using Plant Protection Products 2006 and The Enviroment Act amongst others.

Written permission from the Environment Agency must be obtained for herbicide use within 5 metres of a watercourse.
